This is my first time on this board. I have been under treatment for depression for many years, off and on.I have also been recently diagnosed with adult ADHD. I was currently switching from Welbutrin to Effexor to relieve my depression, when the ADHD thing came up. My depression is already starting to lift and I seem to be tolerating the side effects well so far, but it has only been about 10 days.
Some of the information about Effexor indicates that it has been successful in treating ADHD. I was wondering if anyone else here has had it perscribed for ADHD symptoms and what kind of success they might have had with Effexor. .

I liked what it did, I also took it with the ritalin, and liked that combo best of anything I've tried. However, I had some blood pressure problems and had to get off Effexor and it was hard to go through the withdrawal. I'm on Zoloft now and it's OK but I think it may flatten my emotions too much.

I find Effexor more effective than any of the other AD's in treating moon and attention in my ADD.

> I have ADD/major depression and did fine with Effexor XR for the depression, but when I went to a slower-paced job, I noticed some pretty severe concentration & motivation problems. Increasing the dose of Effexor made it MUCH worse. My doc tried anti-psychotics, Beta-blockers, and mood stablizers, but nothing worked until I was dignosed with ADD and started Ritalin a little over a week ago.
After being on the Effexor for several months, I noticed it was making me drowsy during the day and that worsened my ADD symptoms. My doc believes this may be evidence that I no longer need to boost my serotonin, so I plan to taper slowly off Effexor and try taking Ritalin alone.
I guess my point is that *for me* Effexor XR didn't work as a long-term ADD med. However, it worked well for quite awhile as an anti-depressant. All things considered, though... I don't think I would want to take Effexor again, mostly because of the nasty withdrawal effects.
If it turns out I need another anti-depressant, I'm asking for Wellbutrin.Good luck with your ADD...
