Zoloft and BuSpar

Posted by gloria on March 28, 2000, at 15:15:37

Would like to hear pros or cons on Zoloft. Will be starting this in two weeks along with the BuSpar that I am already taking. I don't want the emotional blunting again or weight gain. What about it guys? Thanks Gloria

My doctor will not prescribe Zoloft due to potentially dangerous side effects. I tried BuSpar, but it had no effect on my anxiety. My doctor calls it the World's Most Expensive Placebo. Hope this helps.

Gloria - Remember to take the Zoloft with food (usually supper). Not only does it help with the stomach upset, it does help it to work better (with a meal, more of the drug travels through the liver unmetabolized on first pass). You will probably notice the side effects are the worst during the first couple of week, as your body adjusts to the drug. They will lessen with time (eg headache, stomach upset, nausea, drowsiness, etc)

As for the Buspar; although it does not work for many people, I have seen it work wonders for anxiety in some (more than just placebo effect, I think - but placebo effect probably does help). Hope this helps - Cam W.

I tried Zoloft and ended up going back to Prozac. Nothing bad happened, I just liked Prozac better.

Now BuSpar made my heart race. I felt so hyper I had to call the doctor and he told me to take a valium.

Remember everyone is different. Hope this helps.

Karen

I just started it 3 weeks ago. At first I found a major decrease in my appetite, (which I became rather fond of)! But once it settled into my system I found my appetite increased a bit. But it is still significantly less than what my usual appetite is...so I believe I will still lose weight while taking it. I am very happy on it. It is the first time in almost 2 months that I am thinking clearly. I lost my full term baby boy (my 3rd son) on 9-30-99 and had fallen into a kind of post traumatic stress disorder with total anxiety. This was such a relief to go on the zoloft. I feel like a new person...I am still sad over my baby of course. But now I can process my grief in a less obsessive and destructive way. I am thankful to have it. I was on 50mg for the first 3 weeks and my doctor just bumped me up to 100 mg today. And I am sleepy now and it is only midnite.(I was having severe insomnia..staying up till 4am sometimes) So I believe I now might have the proper dosage. Give it a chance.
Hugs,
tammy
