Viagra for women - does it work?

Posted by Mead on March 18, 2000, at 21:26:13

I'm on Celexa and Effexor - a great combo for me - except for the more than slightly annoying and infamous sexual side-affect. I'm hoping that Viagra will cure the anorgasmia problem. Does anyone have experience or info on this topic as it applies to females?

Mead - The jury is still out on whether Viagra will work in females. The positive anecdotal evidence may have just been placebo effect (who cares, as long as you see rockets). While most males have a physical response to Viagra's effects, many claim they still aren't interested in sex (eg still no desire - guess the drug just keeps them from rolling out of bed). I don't know if there are similar effects (action available, but no desire) in women. The studies should be out soon. - Cam W.

I thought one just came out in late February, with a big positive on the results.

Anybody else hear about it?

Me again - and in a better mood. I tried Viagra for the first time last night and achieved very positive results. Yeah!

The only problem is that it is not covered by insurance for females. That's approxiately $10 for every....um....pyrotechnic event.

Well, you know what they say about money....it comes and goes.

It's not necessarily covered for men, either. When my pdoc gave me a prescription to try for some relief from my own side effects to SSRIs, my insurance company turned it down flat. My pharmacist said that the insurance company wanted a letter from my pdoc stating exactly for what it was being prescribed before they'd consider it.

Maybe the same tactic would be worth your while. It certainly can't hurt to ask.

cheers,

My insurance company pays for 6 pills/month for men and 0 for women since its not yet approved for women. I heard that Pfizer went to Masters & Johnson to determine how many pills per month they should cover. Apparently 6/mth is the magic number. Personally - I've found that 1/2 of a 50mg pill works pretty darn good - so you could see fireworks 12/mth potentialy.

I'm just glad the darn things work. [insert several bars of "I Feel Pretty"!]

My doctor also gave me samples of Viagra. She said take on if I really need it. (I take 100 of Zoloft 1xd). I guess I will be trying it soon, but I am hoping Buspar will bring my libido up to par. Either that or I will have to rely on my HYPOMANIA! YUK!
