It's not necessarily covered for men, either. When my pdoc gave me a prescription to try for some relief from my own side effects to SSRIs, my insurance company turned it down flat. My pharmacist said that the insurance company wanted a letter from my pdoc stating exactly for what it was being prescribed before they'd consider it.

Maybe the same tactic would be worth your while. It certainly can't hurt to ask.
