no more magic beans...

Posted by torchgrl on February 22, 2000, at 14:18:49

I've been continuing my coffee kick since I discovered it helped my mood, but it seems to be losing it's magic these days. I'm also having some problems with work-related anxiety, which are probably exacerbated by the caffeine. Someone got very pissy with me on the phone about 2 hours ago, and I'm still freaked out about it. This feeling, on a perpetual loop, was the main reason I wound up quitting my last job and wanting a job with no people involved! Do those of you on Ritalin or Adderall find that the stimulant causes or exacerbates anxiety, or do they act differently from caffeine (and norepinephrine-targeting meds)in that respect? I had been thinking about trying to get a script for Adderall at some point, but it might be counterproductive if it increases the anxiety...

something else I've been reading up on ... how caffeine may not work the same as other stims. The stuff I was looking at gave evidence that non-responders to caffeine (like me) can still benefit from ritalin or other stimulants ... otherwise, I'd scratch it from the list I'm gonna hit my pdoc with next Monday.

Hi torchgirl, I am on 10 mgs. Adderall three times per day and find it helpful with my excessive fatigue. It is very gentle(at this dose), you almost think it's not doing anything, you just have a natural feeling of being more "able" to get things done. 10 mgs. is a relatively small dose, and I think that's why I don't have any problem with anxiety on it. Ritalin, on the other hand, was terrible for me. Not only did it worsen anxiety, but I had a tendancy to abuse it, because if you take enough(then take more and more), you do get a "high". Hope this info helps!CarolAnn

another adderall perspective......
i am a new adderall groupie, i began taking it about a month ago and this has been one of the few drugs i've felt noticably different/better on. adderall was prescribed as an augmentor for effexor--i've symptoms of depression with fluxuating anxiety (it's been low for a while now), ADD, and OCD. adderall seems to help with the depression and ADD--i've more energy and while my thoughts still run quick, the adderall helps them feel much less jumbled. as others have said, it is a soft feeling, it is the whole of me as before, but a bit clearer and more energetic. and i haven't any increase in anxiety. i recommend talking to your p-doc about this.....

good luck!!!
