Sorry, I won't be able to make it in the evening. I'll wait for the Philadlephia stop on the World Tour. I volunteer to host that visit. Philly seems much easier to navigate. Everything is very central. I'd still like to buy a t-shirt though. :o)

Well, the cafe I was thinking of is called Space Unlimited. It is at 133 Greene St., which is between West Houston and Prince Sts. It is about halfway down the block on the right side if you're walking south. If anyone needs detailed directions or nearest subways, just email
me at neetie@erols.com. I assume it's on Tuesday, Oct. 12, but Dr. Bob hasn't mentioned a time yet. I'd be willing to get there a little early and grab a table and maybe put some sort of sign up so people know where we all are.Does this sound feasible Dr. Bob?

Down in SoHo? I dunno ... it might actually draw a crowd. Maybe we could bill ourselves as some sort of impromptu avant-garde theatre group and pass a hat for donations ... it could pay for the coffee, etc. =^P

simple, like "Crazy People's table". ;-)anita

5:30 pm-6:30 pm
Reception and Technology ShowcaseI don't know how long it would take me (and others who are there) to get down to SoHo. Estimates?

*dj -- that's Grand Central Station. ;^)
From there, take the 4 or 5 subway downtown to 14th Street/Union Square. That's just one stop on the express lines (4 or 5). Taking the local (the 6) will take quite a bit longer, and the scenery ain't worth it.
At Union Square, transfer to the N/R line downtown. Two stops later, you'll be at Broadway and Prince Street (Prince runs E/W, roughly).
Walk west down Prince Street two blocks. That, according to MapQuest, should be Greene Street, and you should turn right on Greene to get to Space Untitled.
BTW for out-of-towners: The subway now has one-day unlimited ride passes called Fun Passes. They cost $4 -- $1 more than two tokens, so if you're going to use the subway or buses 3 or more times in one day, its worth it. The only problem is the subway booths don't sell them (DOH!) ... you can check with your hotel's concierge. They're sold at places tourists go ... shops and bodegas and places like that.
(those more familiar with SoHo, please correct these directions if I got them wrong!)
Cheers,
Bob

In reply to Directions to "Space Untitled" from GCS*, posted by Bob on September 17, 1999, at 12:35:01
If it ends at 6:30, my experience with conferences says that means the earliest you'll be leaving is 6:45-7 with all the last minute discussions that go on.
The subway ride will be really quick. I'd say 7-7:15 for some of us locals who aren't attending, so we can grab some space for those coming a little later. I'm happy to be on the table-squatters committee, if necessary .... =^)

Bob

How about 7:30? That should leave enough time. The cafe shouldn't be busy then, so getting a table shouldn't be a problem. How will we
recognize each other? Maybe a sign is a stupid idea. Any other suggestions?anita

Since (as far as I know) we don't have a secret handshake or anything like that (hmmm ... but maybe we should), a sign actually sounds like a good idea.

After I waited around for a while in Boston, I just left a sign on the table and went to get some food...
Or, some distinctive article of clothing? An ususual hat? :-)

Well, I *do* have this fedora ....
Then again, I could just act as the "sign" -- I'm 6'2", red moustache, glasses. That usually makes me pretty easy to spot in a crowd (plus, whenever I have to act as a "host" in any sort of way, I get a bit obsessive about making sure everyone gets "brought in" to the group ... see, these little "quirks" come in handy at times!).
Gimme a little time tonight: I'll post a URL for an "invititation" with map, time, and a photo of me so you'll know whom to look for.
Cheers,
Bob

Hi,
OK, 7:30 on Tue. 10/12 at Space Untitled.
Also, I'd like to get a better idea of whether it would be OK to invite a couple guests. One is a psychologist I know from the International Society for Mental Health Online:
http://www.ismho.org
The other is someone from the Netherlands with whom I've corresponded some recently regarding this project he's working on:
"The Dutch Council for Health and Social Service has started a project called Patient and Internet. The Council is an independant advisory body for the Dutch government and I am the leader of this project...
I hope you allow me to raise one specific question. Do you have information with respect to the influence of Internet on the decisions made by patients and/or doctors (induced by the 'Internet-informed' patient) e.g. does the use of Internet affect the number of doctor-visits, choices of therapies, etc...
If the discussion on the evening of October 12th will give me some clues on the influence of Internet on the decisions made by clients/consumers then I would be very pleased to have the possibility to attend your meeting."
When he asked about the influence of the Internet on decision-making, I of course thought of all the folks here (in "Babbleland", as someone said :-).
So, anyway, these are people who might be interested, but I wanted to check first. If you'd prefer for it just to be us, please let me know, directly rather than here if you want. It would be perfectly understandable and fine with me. But if no one minds, I think it might be fun to invite them to join us.

Thanks!
