Hi Jeroen,

Did you talk to your new psychiatrist about possibly starting clozapine?

>i hope i will not develop that condition where all my white blood cells die
>what are the symptoms of that?

Agranulocytosis may result in infection. Symptoms of infection include fever, sore throat and flu-like symptoms.

It is possible that both Abilify and Geodon played a role in causing your TD.

Hi Jeroen :-)

>i aint hospitalized, i am going 3 days a week to the hospital?

Unfortunately, you will have to be admitted to hospital if you want to try Leponex :-(

>should i go to a psychiatrist outside the hospital and ask them to prescribe this for me?

No, treatment with Leponex is only initiated in inpatients. All psychiatrists would say the same.

>i really need your advice on this... what should i do?

If you really want to try Leponex you will have to ask your psychiatrist to admit you to hospital. After you have been stabilised on Leponex you will be able to continue treatment with Leponex as an outpatient. You would probably only have to stay in hospital for a short time. When people start treatment with Leponex they sometimes have serious side effects such as very low blood pressure. It is safest to start Leponex in hospital because the nurses can monitor you closely eg. measure your blood pressure regularly etc.

Good luck!

Hi Jeroen,

What medication has your new psychiatrist prescribed? Has he given you more Zyprexa?

If you do decide to take Zyprexa, take a low dose eg. 5mg. Don't take a high dose unless your doctor told you to.

Are you thinking of trying Seroquel again? If you do you should try a much lower dose than you took before.

Hi Jeroen,

Why would you want to combine Zyprexa with Seroquel? In terms of your blepharospasm, it would probably be more helpful for you to be on Seroquel alone. I think that you would probably experience much milder side effects from Seroquel if you started with a low dose (eg. 12.5mg or 25mg per day) and increased very gradually.

Please tell me.... What treatment has your new psychiatrist prescribed?

Hi,

Although I think Seroquel would be better than Zyprexa for your blepharospasm, I'm a bit concerned that you might have 'strange thoughts' if you take Seroquel. Hopefully, the strange thoughts that you had when you took Seroquel previously were not caused by the drug.

What strength of Seroquel tablets do you have?
In the UK, it comes in 25mg, 100mg, 150mg, 200mg and 300mg tablets. Which strength do you have?
If you're going to try Seroquel, you really need the 25mg tablets so that you can start on a very low dose. If you start at a high dose it will probably make you feel VERY drowsy and ill.

On PubMed, there is a report of an Italian patient who found Seroquel MORE effective than clozapine in reducing the symptoms of his TD!!! The same patient also tried Zyprexa but it wasn't very effective.

I really don't think you should start Seroquel without asking your new psychiatrist. Did you talk about trying Seroquel at your last appointment? I think that he'd probably give you a prescription for the 25mg tablets if you asked.

Ed.

i dont trust my doctor anymore, he doesnt care about my eye problem!

can you advise me a bit how i should proceed?

Hello,

>he wants me to immediatelly take 200 to 400 mg after a few days and not 25 mg

Well, here are the official UK dosage guidelines for using Seroquel in schizophrenia. The guidelines in Belgium are probably the same.

Take 25 mg twice daily on day 1, 50 mg twice daily on day 2, 100 mg twice daily on day 3, 150 mg twice daily on day 4, then adjusted according to response, usual range 300–450 mg daily in 2 divided doses; max. 750 mg daily.

Personally, I think you should increase the dose more slowly though, starting out at 12.5 or 25mg at bedtime. You could gradually work your way up to about 300mg/day over a few weeks.

>my doctor will not prescribe it

I think he probably would prescribe the 25mg tablets if you asked him to!!

Hey Ed,
I've never tried Thorazine but it sounds like you and I have had similar experiences on APs. I get severe akathisia and panic attacks if I take them for too long, like I could blow right out of my skin, LOL even a low dose of friggin Seroquel did that to me. I get this internal intense urge to move, and I feel like I could walk around the world 100 times and it still wouldn't be enough, much like an agitated depression/mixed state. It's hard because those meds are excellent for intrustive thinking and whatnot. I wish they would come up with one that didn't rub you out with akathisia and other EPS stuff. Now I just take one as needed off and on as sort of a "reset" if things are getting out of hand, but it would be nice to have one that was reliable for long term use.

Hi Jeroen,

If you truly believe that Seroquel gave you psychotic thoughts, it would be very unwise to take it without your doctors supervision. If you do still want to try Seroquel, you would need to be closely monitored by your doctor while you increase the dose very gradually.

PLEASE, do not take any more medication without discussing it first with your new psychiatrist.

Would it be so bad to go into hospital for a short while to start clozapine??????

Hi!!

If you get akathisia from Seroquel don't try chlorpromazine!!!! When my akathisia was severe, moving about DID NOT help- but it was still hard to stop!! I got akathisia within 90 minutes of the high dose.

Which APs have you tried? How did you respond to each one? Which meds have you tried for akathisia? Inderal? Anticholinergics?

Take care! Remember, in long term use, Seroquel needs to be taken twice daily ie. approximately every 12 hours, one dose in the morning and one dose before you go to bed. It's ok to take the whole dose at night (eg. 25mg) for the first few days of treatment.
