Thank you for your kind words. No, I have never had therapy per se, but my Pdoc keeps close tabs on events in my life. But both he and I see this as purely a chemical imbalance, so he doesn't spend much time on talk therapy. Thank you for caring about me. :)

Lexy,
Have you checked out the P-B Alternative section? They will be able to help you more. I don't think that any supplements will make Lexapro any less effective. However, you do have to be careful with adding supplements. If a chemical imbalance is the cause of the problems that originally caused you to take ADs, then you could potentially make the imbalance worse with the wrong supplements. For instance, if your body is too high in copper, and your multi-vitamin has copper, it could make you feel worse. Be careful with the B complexes too. Some people react negatively to folic acid.
I don't want to scare you away from supplements, because I really believe that the right ones for your body can make a night and day difference. Just be careful. I just got the book "Mood Cure" by Julia Ross (excellent), and I am in the process of figuring out which supplements will help me.
Good luck.

HI Lexy,
Ideally, I would like to become an elementary counselor. It seems out of reach for me though because of my age and needing so much more schooling. It's up in the air right now. I'm just taking it one credit at a time. I really enjoy working with children, especially special ed kids. I am lucky enough to be able to do that now in my job as a teachers aide but would like to take it further. Anyway thanks for your encouragement.Hope you are feeling well today. I plan to begin my 15mg dosage tomorrow night and will be looking for support. I know that you recently began that dosage. How long has it been now? Do you notice anything different?
I also have an appointment with a clinical social worker on Friday and can't wait! It's long overdue. Bye for now. Mrs. C

Wow Simus, I feel really horrible that you are going through such rough times. I respect you for being so honest with all of us. I know that can be difficult. You don't have to feel that you need to have all the answers. I know for myself, just typing things that I am feeling helps alot. If I get a reply, great. If I can help someone else in the same boat, even better. Most of us on this board are going through similar transitions in our lives and it's good to know that we are not alone. Bye for now. Mrs. C

Lexy, I take all of the vitamins that you mentioned in the am with breakfast. I take my lex in the evening. I have absolutely no idea if it has any bearing on the effectiveness of lex. Let us know if you find out anything. Mrs. C

Hi Mystic,
I really didn't notice an increase in my energy level until week 6. When it hits you will notice! I went on a cleaning and organization frenzy! As far as decreased energy in the beginning, I definetly had that! After work I would just sit in my chair and dose while watching TV. Many household chores suffered during those first weeks on Lex. The fact that you even have the energy to make it to the gym impresses the hell out of me. Good girl. You are well on your way to improvement. You have all the tools, you just need to be patient a little longer. Praying for you every night along with all of my other lex buddies. Mrs. C

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature at this site:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#amazon
The first time anyone refers to a book without using this option, I post this to try to make sure he or she at least knows about it. It's just an option, though, and doesn't *have* to be used. If people *choose* not to use it, I'd be interested why not, but I'd like that redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration:

It's great to support each other, that's the idea here, but I'd like to redirect follow-ups that aren't about medication, like the above, to Psycho-Social-Babble. Here's a link:

That's what this board is for. I'm here if you need to personally email me send it to angelbeliefs@aol.com. I would love to help you, I know that feeling. I flipped out last night but finally the xanex kicked in and this morning I woke up knowing it was just another day closer to winning this battle. All of these meds take different time for everybody and I promise you (AS YOU KNOW) you will have good days and you will start having more and more of them as time passes. Take a deep breathe, take your med, tell the anxiety - you're not going to have me forever! go outside and feel the cool morning air on your face, think happy thoughts, remember docs say anxiety hasn't ever made anybody just fall down and die. Your going to be okay. (((hugs)))

I know after I have an attack, I'm exhausted, which certainly doesn't help my anxiety. If you have to work, try to get through the day and then go home and try to take a nap. I drink tension tamer tea by celestial seasonings, it helps me relax a little without having to take another pill. Good luck to you, remmeber if you need me I'm here. :0)

Hi Mystic - It sounds like you had a better day on Sunday?
I have a major energy problem after 10 weeks on 10 mg of Lex & then 9 weeks on 20 mg. Not sure if I'm just sleepy though since I have a bit of insomnia (getting much better since last week tho).
I don't work out much, but I did experience some muscle weakness and thought it's just because I'm tired all the time. Could it be that the Lex relaxes your system and that includes the enzymes that go into making ATP or whatever it is that turns into energy? I'm just fishing around for an explanation, really don't know.
I REALLY commend you for getting up and getting out each day. That has got to help so much!! You are doing better than you think if you can do that :-) Hope you have time to call some counselors today. I wonder if they would give you some patients to call as references?
Hang in there, you're on your way!

Hey guys...I was just wondering if anyone has a problem with energy on Lexapro and if this is a side effect that goes away in time...I have the hardest time just getting through the day not to mention an arobics class..went to the gym this morning and I had no energy to lift weights and noticed that the amount of weight is less than I usually do...Didnt know if this would go away with time...Been on the Lex for 5 weeks tomorrow....thanks Mystic

Hi! What a horrible way to feel. I have had days like that too!
I see 2 ways to look at it:
You're at the 5 week mark and many report increased agitation and anxiety at that time. Can you wait it out a week? The other way to see it is:
What do you have to lose by increasing? I'm sure your counselor is more of an expert than any of us since she's dealt with more people in our shoes!I forget if you're taking anything for anxiety. Maybe increase that first?
Hang in there, you will get through this and brighter days are coming. I can't believe how different I am now vs. even 9 weeks ago. My best friend wrote me an email this morning and said "Lynne, I really think you're back and I'm so glad. I missed you!" It brought tears to my eyes! You will get there too and we are here for you with whatever happens on your trip :-)

Mrs. C,
I hope you are doing well today. Thus far I have seen a small improvement on 15mg, not great. I know kathryn and others have said it took a few weeks before they noticed a differece. I am now in the waiting period again. Feeling ok though, not sure if it is because of the increase or the fact that my PMDD weeks are over. I will be interested to see what happens around that time of the month again. It was better last month thant he month before so (fingers and toes crossed) it will be the best yet this month.
I really liked LynnDa's email about how she is a different person from even nine weeks ago. I have seen that I am different person (better) a tiny bit each day, I guess with losing yourself to depressio/anxiety or in your case OCD it takes time to put it back together. Although we may be over the inital symptoms we have a hill to climb to get us back. At least now, although I know I have a climb ahead, I am feeling strong and challanged by that journey, not beaten down and scared. I hope this strenght continues to grow in me and all of my lexapro family as well.
As for being a school counselor, I think you should go for it! You are a compasionate, kind and sweet woman. I wish I my school would have had someone caring that children could go to, I think it would have made a huge impact on our school.
God Bless,
Lexy

In reply to HELP..WHEN WILL THE ANXIETY END!!!!, posted by mystic on March 8, 2004, at 7:10:21
Hi Mystic,
Rest assured that the racing thoughts, anxiety etc... are all common side effects of Lexapro. Many of us here, myself included, have been through the exact same things you're experiencing now.
It's possible that you might be very sensitive to meds, that's why your body is having such a hard time adjusting. (I only say this because it sounds like the side effects are becoming too difficult to live with. The side effects I experienced were very uncomfortable, but tolerable.)
Consider talking to your psychiatrist/doctor about lowering the dose slightly. You could go down to 5 mgs and increase to 10 mgs in a few weeks...this would give your body more time to get used to the medication.
I would suggest waiting another week. If you aren't feeling better (hopefully by that time you will be), think about decreasing your dose or trying another med.
Remember, above all else to listen to your body and do what you think is right for it.
K.

Hi,
I was on 10 mgs for 5 weeks and increased to 15 mgs because I was still having panic attacks. (Sorry if I'm repeating myself, I might have told you this already.) It really helped me a great deal.
I would suggest trying it for 2 weeks. If you aren't feeling better, you can always go back down to 10 mgs. In my experience, the side effects of increasing from 10 to 15 mgs aren't that bad.

thank you kathryn. even the tone of this email probably sounds calmer, but ironically i took .25 xanax at 9am and none since! it seems to take a looooong time to work for me.
anyway, you began 15mg after 5 weeks? i have been on lex since the first week of february, so that makes 5 weeks. i too (as i wrote earlier) am still having MASSIVE anxiety and disorienting panic attacks. people say that the 5th week is the worst. also i was on 20mg paxil whihc seems to be the equivalent of 10lex?
basically i think your advice is good which is to go up to 15mg for a few weeks and see how i feel. how soon after going up from 10 did you notice an improvement? and did you still feel massively anxious on 10?
sorry for all the questions, but i appreciate your advice :)
