This is a good place to get support. I'm glad I found it too. It's not like I can go to work and say "Man, this new anti-dpressant I'm taking is making me sick to my stomach and I clench my jaw a lot too." I used to be one of the "you can just snap out of it" crowd too until I got my rear end royally kicked and had to admit that I was depressed. Wow.
Haven't noticed any blood. That might be something you want to have checked out.
Hang in there.

Thank you, I really appreciate you writing back. From what I can tell after reading many of the posts, after two weeks things should be better (I certainly hope so). I'm being treated for depression and anxiety, just waiting to see if this will do some neat magic trick for me, or if I'll have to try hard to 'snap out of it.'

It's been a while since my doc mentioned upping my dose. I put it off for a while, almost 2 weeks, because I was trying to start a new relationship and didn't want side-effects to get in the way.
Well, the new relationship didn't work out - which is okay, because I have a GREAT, supportive new friend out of it. But since I'm not working on that I decided yesterday to start 15mg. So 2 days on the 15mg and I haven't noticed any side-effects. I was lucky with 10mg and I hope I don't have problems with the increase either. I would think another 5 days will tell the true story.
Hey lil'Jimi, did you move your dose up yet?

You're welcome:-) just be patient with the meds. I've had success with them in the past. It's just the initial getting used to them that's a little tough. Serzone wasn't nearly this bad but it just burned out. It also wasn't so good for anxiety. Lex is supposed to work on both so we'll see.

I've beeen trying to do that for 3 months and finally I had to talk to my doctor about it. I was thinking about death every day and it was really starting to get me down. thank GOD for the internet... no matter what our spouses think we can discuss our meds etc with those that have been there and hopefully get answers. and it keeps us from looking like weaklings etc to our familys. my husband has no ideal what i have been thriough with the meds, or what to expect. see when i started taking zoloft he thought i was mentaLLY insane... until after a year of cold shoulder and looking at me like i was queerer than a three dollaR bill, he found out his mother and sister were both on drugs for depression then his out look was completly different towards me. shame people look at us like that. they don't think poorly of heart meds, or dieabetes meds, etc... just when it occurs with our heads. that is so wrong too. like my sdoc said she thinks mine is mainly hormonal, dead baby and the change all at once. we just have an inbalance. and i really think it is linked to malnutrition over a long period/stress too.

Although I figured there must be some folks like me out there, I didn't see eveidence of it until I stumbled on this list.
The Lexapro did a number on my intestines for two days - I thought I was going to need Depends! :)
Also, my libido is coming back for the first time in many medicine trial and errors. I think this Lexapro is for me! Thanks, Treb

Hi there, just a little concerned about you mentioning blood in your stool. Ever have this before lexapro. Have you been constipated with lexapro. Any stomach pain? I had blood in my stool before lexapro and then after. But I had stomach problems and then constipation. I had the 2 scopes done, one down the throat and the one up the rear. They more or less put you to sleep for these. Drink plenty of water its very very important. Could be lexapro just irritating your system and it will go away in time. Sorry about your husband not understanding!!!!!!!! TAKE CARE!!!

Please get that blood on your stool checked out~~not good. Have you had that before? I had the ups and downs ins and outs should I say (shivers)of the bowel tests. I haven't had any bleeding on the Lexapro, but concerned if you're having that:-(
Do you have a history of colitis or Chrohn's Disease?
Keep us posted please, if you feel comfortable of course.
Take the best of care ok?!

No history of colitis or crohn's disease. i just spent a month in the hospital for dvt and anemia though, so the blood worries me a little. plus i'm on the blood thinners, so i'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. i just had an endoscopy and colonoscopy a month ago, so i think that probably rules out something really bad...i hope. if i could get a straight answer from one of my 12,000 doctors maybe i wouldn't have so much anxiety.

Hi. I'm new to the group - just found it today, in fact. Someone may have answered these questions back in the distant past, but I couldn't find the answers while poking around.
I was on Prozac for several years before switching to Celexa in May of 2003 (I switched because no matter what I tried, being on Prozac left me feeling fatigued and sleepy much of the time). I found that Celexa (40 mg) wasn't as effective as Prozac in treating my symptoms. On the advice of my doctor, I switched to Lexapro (10 mg) last week.
My questions are:
1. Has anyone had experience with switching from 40 mg of Celexa to 10 mg of Lexapro? Is this dosage high enough, or should I expect to need to increase at some point?
2. I seem to be experiencing some side effects (dizziness, sleepiness, and upset stomach) from Lexapro. Is the normal, considering that I switched from Celexa?
3. If I do continue to feel fatigued and sleepy, does anyone have any suggestions on things I might try? Thanks in advance,
dan

Hi there, I know about the 12,000 doctors. For me at the worst of my panic and anxiety I was always at the hospital or family doctor. 3000 tests later oh my gosh I was diagnosed by someone who was not even a doctor. Good for me though, I have had a complete physical worth about $100,000 to the insurance company. Fat chance of getting me back to the doctors office anytime soon. Glad you have had all the scopes done. I guess that rules out anything major. Drink your water, take your vitamins and eat some good food. Sounds like everything should be ok with time!!! Hi Dan
Welcome to the group. I just found it recently too. Great amount of info here. I started Lex a week ago Weds. I'm on 10 mgs now and go up to 20 this thurs. Lex is a more potent form of celexa and it looks like the dosages don't need to be quite as high. We've all had side effects. The nausea is diminishing and I'm starting to actually "feel" a little better. Pretty much everyone says to just hang in there and the side effects will back off after a few weeks.Take care

In regard to the tiredness: Only thing I found that works and works consistently is a brisk walk for about 1/2 hour to 40 minutes. It's the last thing you feel like doing but for some strange reason, if you can summon the effort, it's miraculous.

The side effects you are describing are usual when first beginning Lexapro. I am feeling the same thing as you.. the dizziness, the tiredness, the stomach problems. It tends to get lesser with time. I don't feel half as bad as I did that first week or so. Your body just has to get used to the new drug.
Lexapro is better because they've isolated the molecule that does the good stuff and leaves the bad stuff out. I think your doctor may increase the dose to 20 mg if he thinks you aren't responding the way you should be.
You came to the right place, and feel free to continue to ask the questions. None are unimportant here.
