Like "healthy" people it is difficult to generalize about people with bipolar. Many people with severe bipolar one disorder, like me for example, are ironically more effectively treated than those treated for BP II who struggle with persistent mood cycles. When ill, my highs and lows are completely incapacitating. But lithium has kept me free of extreme poles for decades at a time. I have consistently been able to work. Thankfully, I have always had insurance for relapse periods. So as not to be defined by my disorder, I do not share it with anyone but the most trustworthy of people. It has been nice to be open here.
