We in Australia are fond of saying how much we care for children, usually when the spectre of paedophilia gets us feeling virtuous.
Nothing like a paedophile to get the population caring for its children and in the most recent case, leaving coffins at his door.
When I see children cared for I will be more impressed.
We can't even organise decent orphanages, we locked kids up in the desert to deter illegal immigrants (the ones after us).
And tax cuts for the rich and weapons, but God forbid that the edifying spectacle of dog eat dog should be moderated by a social safety net.
But then I'm naive...I'd never seen a homeless person before I went to Europe when I was 30, and yet I live on top of a genocide.
That's more or less what I meant by a culture of cruelty.
