Really Cool

Posted by susan47 on August 5, 2006, at 20:54:46

Here's a description of a woman, from a book I'm reading, and it's a powerful one:
"....She had a large mouth, with teeth like sugar cubes and lips sore at the corners, their skin flaking slightly. It gave her face a disconcertingly predatory look. However, she had a perfectly straight nose of average size above that mouth, and her eyes lay in their sockets looking as exposed and alarmed as if this were not their accustomed place, only a temporary refuge, and the rightful owner could come along at any time, stake a claim and pocket them like a couple of marbles. Taken as a whole, the details of Martina's physiognomy added up to such an attractive impression that wherever she went men perked up like pointers finding a scent, while the sight of her made women slump like sad cakes."

Lovely. What other powerful literary descriptions can you think of that describe woman?
