I'm thinking of you. I lost my dad about 6 months ago.
I didn't have the long, difficult illness and caretaking you did, though, so I know that part was very different. (My dad passed away before I could even get on a plane to go and be with him. And that s*cked, too :-()
I don't suppose either way is better, worse....just all difficult and draining. They are still our dads and always were and will be, and when they're gone it's time to grieve and feel any feeling that comes up. You will get through, day by day, as you already have been doing with your many other life challenges.
Feelings will do as they will, whether we label them good, bad, weird, indifferent...they'll come, and at the strangest times, I found. I hope there's someone IRL you can talk to and lean on. If not, I'm glad you come here still.
Remember to eat a little, drink some water, rest, and rest some more. Those little things will help, as dumb as that may sound.
Take care, Joan.
