Never knew

Posted by cockeyed on July 27, 2005, at 21:22:18

NEVER KNEW

Never knew love was a leaning
Into a wind so gentle
but my it swept you up
tossing and turning
and just for a neighbor girl
your heart was sent all burning.
just a girl, and I see her now
and can feel my damn heart burning
'cause she was the world to me
amd I'd no voice for my yearning.

saw a picture of her, older than old
these days, the way things keep
turning. over and over again
And, thank god, I felt my stupid kid's
pain, and the sweetness
of nights spent yearning
across the yards, just over the fence
And I'd tell her today
tho years have flown away
she still has my heart
and all that's in it.

[for Nancy, Cockeyed.]
