Wow, what incredible insight you have into why we feel alone and isolated and why we can't fix it, and how much work it is to even reach out to others who are also suffering.
This line actually made me laugh outloud:
"Surely something would tip me off; the rattle of a pill bottle, the slump of the shoulders, the dazed look."
I am always wondering why we can't recognize other sufferers, or how everyone doesn't know there is something totally awry with ourselves. I know you weren't going for comedic relief or humor here, but what you wrote is very touching, agonizingly true, and all the while kinda funny when you think about it!
Thank you for sharing, for enlivening my day with your discernment, and for expressing your pain and frustration so lucidly. What you wrote is beautiful, though I wish it was not wrought out of such suffering.
