One step farther (about patients in the hospital)

These actors, they seem
to not know their scripts
or why
the bright light shines them in their faces
they seem to stutter through
their lines not knowing that
their pay would be the
coming together of the fragments of their minds
but they cannot
they know not the ability to walk
into the spotlight,
through the gates of enlightenment
one foot back, one foot sideways,
they make no progress, no cessation
in the flow of their tears
that threaten to drown them
i watch and wonder
how a human being can
be so obstinate to growth, to change
and then i look at myself
i know that change
is the void the surrounds,
terrifies
the soul into cowering
for those that hurt
for those that are being hurt
for those that are deaf and dumb,
take a step forward.
one step and the spell is broken
one step and the hip swings
the leg to take another
forward, into the light.
and i challenge myself to do the same
