The Sentinels

Five fir trees stand as sentinels
arms outstretched
embracing the un embraceable wind
leaves wildly swirling and jumping
joyful colors of red, yellow, orange
mix with their somber partners
brown, sienna and black
this evening’s chill portends of things to come
