"Here is a wonderful book for you to read. It addresses exactly the problem you are having. It is called "How to get to the end". It gives very clear, step by step instructions on how to complete things." He placed the book on the coffee table between them, and opened it to the first page.
"I do need to learn how to complete things" she agreed, but she sounded a little skeptical. "I don't think that I'll be able to read past the first page..."
Clearly, he was very enthusiastic about this book and how it could help her. "You will really be glad if you do read this book, it has the best explaination on this subject".
"Sure, but I don't think I can read the whole thing. I wish I could, but I just know that I can't read this book."
"You are a bright woman, you've read lots of things before by other authors who are harder to read than this author. Once you have read this book you will find it easier to complete things. That is what we are trying to accomplish."
She looked disappointed. "Yes, I have read lots of hard books, but I won't be able to read enough of this book to get to the end. I can read this first page, but that is all I can do."
"The words in this book are not hard words. You know how to read, you have a good vocabulary."
"That's not the problem" she said. "I don't know how to explain it, but I can't read the book."
"Well, I know that it would help you, so you should try to read it. I'm sure you will agree with me when you have finished it - it really is a great book."
"But you don't understand why I can't read it."
"I do understand... I know it won't be easy, but I'm confident that you have the skills you need to read and understand this book. If there are any words you don't understand you can look them up in the dictionary. And we can go over any paragraphs that you don't understand after you have finished the book. It truly will show you how to "Get to the end"!" He got up, puts his coat on and smiled warmly at her "Once you have learned to complete things, everything in your life will be easier. Reading this book will teach you how to complete things. Take the book home with you and read it. We can talk about it later."
"I can't take the book home and read it..." she whispered...
But he didn't hear. He closed the door quietly behind him as he left.
She looked at the book. She knew that this book could really help her, but she shook her head and stood up dejectedly. "I can't take the book home..." She walked over to the door, leaving the book on the coffee table. She pushed the blue square button next to the door with her hip. The door opened and she walked out, with her arms flopping lifelessly at her side. The door closed automatically behind her.
