Yes, you're absolutely right about the suspected origins of black Irish like myself. Spanish sailors settled in Ireland with native women. Some of the Odubhda have wonderful little descriptors after their names like so-and-so "Ravenhair" or so-and-so "of the flowing black locks." The swarthy color eventually was geneticaly watered down so I have that classically pale Irish skin that burns after two seconds in the sun, but the dark hair remains, above two very Irish bright blue eyes. My mom is the only other one in my immediate family with blue eyes. Everyone else has brown ones -- perhaps a touch of the Spanish emerging, but who can say? My sister does have a touch of Mediterranean coloring, and with her long dark hair and brown eyes, she could almost pass for Spanish. Maybe my fascination with bladed dueling weapons draws on some ancestral memory of the time when the Odubhda sept made its living with steel. At any rate, it's fun to think about. Bet I was the first one in the clan to attack someone with a bladed weapon in a long time.
