a poem I wrote...

Posted by QuietHeart on February 7, 2004, at 22:32:39

Hi everyone,
I am relatively new to Babble and totally new here. I wrote this poem several years ago but feel it applies so much to my life now and have been yearning to share it with the right crowd. And here you are! Please feel free to brutally critique it too! I am going to peruse others' work too, as soon as I get a chance.

The Reluctant Pariah

Underneath the weary, paling face
And behind the empty, pleading, glistening eyes,
There lay a heart so pure and full of grace,
Yearning to wrestle out of her disguise.

For listless anguished hours, nights of pain
Had robbed this gentle spirit of her best
From inside her wounded soul he’d taken reign,
And this pariah soon would be at rest.

But now the silent sobs would choke her dry,
And the rage and fury scorch her deep,
For hard as this beating mass might try,
Many secrets there she could not keep.

But often when the day had not been done,
She stared up at the unassuming stars,
She waited through the darkness for the sun,
While her wandering eyes watched morning from afar.

And fairy tales abounded in her head,
And wizards pranced about in all her dreams.
And a marching band played music by her bed,
And it felt that nothing should be as it seems.
