I posted here awhile ago about my weird, passive-aggressive boss. Well, over the past couple of months, she becomes weirder and even more passive-aggressive. She was always one to spend a lot of time in her office with the door closed, but now, it is almost constant. As a matter of fact, if she is not in her office with the door closed, she is in someone else's office with the door closed or out for lunch. And, to top it off, she doesn't turn on her lights, with the exception of a little desk lamp that provides very little light. Now, during the summer months, that's not so bad because there is a lot of natural light streaming in through the windows. But, now that it is fall, she is basically sitting in her office with the door closed in the dark. And, every conversation she has with anybody has to be done behind closed doors. If she is having a "chat" and the door is open, when someone walks by to drop something off is another person's office, when you go back, the door is inevitably closed. I would like to say that I am interested in what she is talking about, but, based on experience, there is not much of interest coming out of her mouth. Which leads me to the fact that she has nothing nice to say about anybody - nobody! You mention having dealt with someone outside the office or in the past and, invariably, she has something bad to say about them. Then comes the really unprofessional behaviour - asking employees to hide documents from another person, asking them to lie to this person so the person will not get the necessary support to ensure the work for which she is responsible for ensuring gets done, and asking employees to keep tabs on other employees (spy) with respect to when they arrive in the morning and when they leave at night. People have started comparing notes, and all the dastardly things she has been doing behind other people's backs are starting come to light. I have now asked that my reporting relationship be changed. And, I went over her head to do it right to her boss (who, by the way, she has been maligning for months to anyone who will listen to her). Turns out he is well aware of her inappropriate behaviour and, I get the impression, will be taking steps to fix the problem. In the meantime, it is a very demoralizing and frustrating situation. I know it's not nice to say, but she is CRAZY! She has no business supervising others. She can't even cope with the little bit of work she has left to do (the big boss has slowly been taking away responsibilities from her because she has made herself inaccessible to not only her staff, but also to him and because she has demonstrated that she is bordering on incompetent (can't even write a coherent briefing note)). How do people become so mean-spirited, lazy and malicious?
That's all. Just had to empty my bag. Feel better now.
