Agree with gg and Wildflower.
One other practical issue might be that making sure the business is steady, or earning enough for times when business decreases, may mean working more at any one time than is necessary for income at that time.
Sometimes, you need to work more, in order to get more business later-- ie keep your business name circulating, have people referring to you, etc.
So there'a kind of overall need to work enough to secure the ongoingness of the business, which could be more than your income requirements-- ie to prevent the business from falling off, at some future time.
But those are all practical business/income issues.
The other important ones are how much he enjoys the work and what other things he likes/needs to do.
For example, if you two like vacations, or other activities, he might be prone to work less than necessary for maximum income-- because if you have enough, you want to enjoy time together.
Or he might be a workaholic (like my SigO) and just need psychologically to be working night and day and a few extra hours beyond.-- Or he might worry a lot about income, and therefore be afraid to slack off, because someday, there might not be enough. So temperament-- and security needs-- play a part.
How many hours a week does your husband work?
