> I have been taking 5mg. of Sonata for sleep for a month. My psych Doc told me just to quit, no tapering. I am having terrible withdrawal symptoms, namely rapid heart rate, tugging heart pain, and , obviously, insomnia. The only thing worse was narcotic withdrawal after knee surgery. She advised me to take 25 mg. extra tenormin before I go to bed. This takes the edge off for 3 or 4 hours, and allows me to sleep.

> 1lablvrI quit 5 mg Olanzapine, which I had been taking for four years, cold turkey. It didn't work! Gave me terrible insomnia. Its best to do it by degrees. Have you got any Sonata left? Try cutting a 5 mg tablet in half and take the big half for a few nights....? Then take the small halves. Then cut the tablet into quarters. Start off with the big quarters then graduate to the small quarters. That way you will come off the Sonata gradually, and hopefully without unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.
I hope this works for you.
