Severe headaches (every day), stomach problems(pain and intermittent diarrhea) fatique, mood swings...mostly irritable, angry, and sad, overall just feel horrible..sick! Is this common for Parnate withdrawal? I was on a high dose of 150 mgs. for about 4 mos., and tapered off rather quickly..about 10mgs. per day. Any thoughts and/or advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry that I didn't get to reply to your post earlier, but I have been a bit out of sorts.

I'm sure that the withdrawal symptoms vary depending on the individual. Your taper schedule was obviously too rapid to prevent them from appearing. You are likely to experience fatigue and REM rebound with vivid dreams. Certainly, the other things you describe can all be attributed to withdrawal. Do you experience brain-zaps? I think I did when I came off of Nardil. The irritability, anxiety, and mood swings might be part of a relapse into depression. You might even be more depressed at first. This worsening is usually transient. Overall, the withdrawal syndrome resulting from the discontinuation of MAOIs is less problematic and short-lived than that from SRIs. The worst of it will probably be over in a week. Remember, your MAO was probably 100% inhibited. It takes 10-14 days for the system to recover completely from the time you discontinue the drug.

When did you first experience withdrawal symptoms relative to your taper schedule?

Good luck on Emsam!
