To help with tapering...

Posted by ReadersLeaders on September 11, 2005, at 22:46:06

If you are using capsules for Effexor, try switching to tablets. They come in 25mg, 37.5mg, 75mg--you can cut them with a pill splitter that can be purchased for about $4.00 at any pharamacy.

I started using the tablets after getting down to 75mg/XR once a day. I started by taking half a 75mg tablet in the morning and half at night. And I always stay at my new dose for at least a month before reducing my dose again--it gives the body time to stablize.

I am now at 37.5mg for the day; half in morning, half at night.

When I reduce it again I will cut a 37.5mg tablet in half and a 25mg tablet in half and take one half of each: 18.75mg in the morning + 12.50mg at night = 31.25 total for the day.

I'm also currently taking 2 calcium/magnesium supplements and have at least 1 banana a day; the calcium and banana help with restless leg syndrome (which I started to get as I taper lower and lower) and the magnesium helps with keeping the heart in proper rythmn. (I've had panic attacks in the past).

Hope this helps someone.
