The method by which you were told to discontinue the drug is about the worst think one can to. Skipping days between doses will only make things more difficult.

It would be difficult to predict how long the withdrawal symptoms will last if you elect not to restart Effexor.

Another strategy that is often successful is to temporarily substitute Effexor with Prozac and then discontinue the Prozac. One will take 20mg of Prozac for a few days and then discontinue the Effexor using a rapid taper. Some people don't need to take Prozac for any more than a few days to a week. The withdrawal syndrom from Prozac is usually mild.
