> I started taking DXM (cough surup) in high doses for the high about a year ago, and i can't stop. I do it about two or three times a month, but i've just recently realized i'm not able to stop. I've tried replacing it with weed, but it just makes me crave it more. To top it off, i find myself needing higher and higher doses to reach the same effect. Anyone have any advise on what to do? Not really in the mood to see any doctors or such...
I'm really concerned. The idea that you are still increasing the dose to maintain the effect (the high, from what I gather) is worrisome. The nature of the drug itself is to have an anaesthetic threshold, and going unconscious could be a threat to your life.
It is certainly possible to become addicted to DXM, and you show those hallmarks. I urge you to consider consulting detoxification centres. There may be special supports required for DXM detox (I really don't know).
I think there is a significant risk of permanent neurological injury if you continue.
