Hi Everyone,
Just when I thought it would be a while before I experienced anything like the side effects of Campral again (extreme, painful bloating, flatulence, insomnia from all that gas!), another MD - who KNOWS I'm lactose-intolerant - prescribed Buspar to help reduce my anxiety. Those of you who are also lactose-intolerant know what happens when anything we take is spiked with lactose. You guessed it: extreme, painful bloating, flatulence, insomnia from all that gas !!!
Apparently there's no lactose-free formulation of Buspar. Here's one mfg's description at RxList:
http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/buspir.htm
Lactose is listed as one of the "inactive" ingredients.
If you're lactose-intolerant, proceed with caution when taking Buspar. It may be that the amount of lactose is small enough to pass unnoticed through the digestive systems of sensitive people; but it sure as hell caused the more common reaction in me.
Regardless of how anyone does or does not react to the lactose in Buspar, a serious issue must certainly involve the lack of clear warnings in the patient handout. Combine this omission with a careless MD who prescribes Buspar to lactose-intolerant patients, stir well, and you've got enough gas to fill a blimp.
Now that I think of it, let's change the name of the Goodyear Blimp. We'll call it the Buspar Blimp, and use it to advertise medical incompetence at all the major sporting events.
Just a thought.
