The longest I have been sober since 2000. The happiest ever I've been sober - using more diverse tools and resources that are helping me develop my life as a sober person. I am not just an alcoholic that doesn't drink, as I felt I was 5 years ago, when I reached this milestone.
Being able to grow and develop the spiritual side of my life has really helped strengthen my foundation of sobriety. I rely more effectively on my intuition; am able to release remorse and leave grudges behind as I have a better grasp of the Big Picture: who do I want to be? How do I want to be remembered as? These are the choices that I consciously make every day. Not drinking helps me achieve these goals with a clarity that I lacked previously.
Lovingkindness. Embracing the idea of collective consciousness and our world as a living being that demands my nuturing to heal and survive. This is the spirituality of which I speak. No notion of g*d beyond what our minds are capable of when we join together our desires and efforts, being aware of how our inidivual actions affect others around us. Knowing that my contribution has meaning and value. Realizing that my contribution is small but ripples towards others as a pebble thrown into a still pond, changing everything in its path.
This is what sobriety has given me so far. it is a great motivator for continuing on.
