I saw "28 Days" with Sandra Bullock yesterday and it actually helped me get through the day without drinking. I recommend it as a kind of rehab refresher.
I've only been in rehab once and was transferred to the psych ward within a week. I logged about 2 years in VA or military hospitals. I'd rather be dead than in a VA hospital. Scary place. Some doctors made a hobby of committing patients.
I haven't been near a VA hospital since 1992 and hope to keep it that way. I suppose I could use rehab (VA has about a 90% failure rate because patients just go there when they run out of money towards the end of the month and resume drinking when they get out)
My week in a VA rehab was a joke. Imagine being told by someone that you're in "their" seat at an AA meeting. I thought this must be what prison is like.
I think I'll order 28 Days and an assortment of other good movies dealing with alcoholism. Can't afford rehab privately.
I'm not normally making New Year's resolutions but I hope to stay off booze, adult sites, and news channels during 2005. For me one vice contributes to the other. I add news because it can only agitate or excite me about something I'm powerless to change. I also hope to curtail the overspending - another borderline trait.
And finally I'm cutting way back on Babble. I always feel worse when I reveal too much and I find online socializing empty for the most part. As with most borderliners I have trouble doing anything in moderation. Whether it's alcohol, sex, babble, spending, gambling, or watching the news - it consumes me.
