hi-- i'm really nervous about coming off my meds, and i'm wondering what the experience is like. first, i've been on benzos at high doses for two years-- ativan, xanax, and klonopin. i'm not a klonopin person (i take it only at night because daytime high doses make me depressed) so switching to a long-acting benzo isn't really a good option. i'm not really afraid of a lower dose (i think my anxiety level is less than when i started), but i'm worried about the psychological and medical withdrawal effects. next, i'm tapering off of adderall. i tried to stop cold turkey, but i couldn't take it for more than two days, and i'm afraid that would cause a crash into bad depression. i would actually rather taper off the benzos than the adderall. i need to stop it because it's caused dangerous weight loss, but i still have problems (even more than before) with attention and energy. i've tried wellbutrin and strattera without success, and provigil and concerta with some success but much less than adderall. are there other stimulants or stimulant-type meds that can address these problems? what is a reasonable tapering schedule and what is amphetamine withdrawal like? finally, i need to taper off of percocet. i've only been on narcotic painkillers for about a month and a half, but i hear dependence develops quickly. i take about three 7.5/500 pills a day. what are withdrawal effects like? are they dangerous? my experiences with stopping meds have been really scary-- stopping effexor was horrible physcially and caused one of the darkest depressions i've ever had. stopping zoloft made me so tired i couldn't function and caused the bottom to fall out from under me in a matter of days.
if anyone has experiences or advice, please let me know! thanks so much! cb
