topamax and alcohol dependence

Posted by tanafofana on August 9, 2004, at 15:35:12

Folks-
I started taking topamax for migraines and I can't tell you how different I drink on this drug. I generally try to stay away from alcohol due to a family history of alcoholism. I read that researchers believe it washes away the dopamine rush that makes me just want to keep on drinking cause I feel so damn good. I believe that's exactly what this drug does and that perhaps for the for time in a long, long time I'm responding to alcohol like a normal person. I'm not planning on becoming a regular drinker and, in fact, I didn't even enjoy it that much. If you're in recovery, don't go out and get a script but if you want to try to stop or moderate, Topamax definitely might help. I predict it will revolutionize the drug treatment industry.
