Alcohol and rapid onset depression/brain fog?

Posted by bobbyswitchblade on November 9, 2003, at 15:15:28

I have been struggeling with mental problems since I was 16-I'm 23 now. Anti-depressants never helped. I quit drinking for a long time because it no longer did anything for me-I just couldn't feel anything-drunk or sober. After over a year without touching alcohol, regular exercise, ect. I felt barely any difference. Finally I was prescribed Adderall(stimulant) and everything turned around- I felt absolutely like myself again. On my 21st birthday I decided to drink-had a blast and woke up feeling fine. The next time I drank I awoke feeling like garbage-unable to feel or think straight. After that, the Adderall would not work for me. Later that year I had shock treatment and came out of it feeling great- absolutely alive again. Despite what I had been through I decided it would be alright for me to drink again- no doctor could explain my previous crash. I crashed again, just as before, after a few nights drinking. I have had no relief since. I have found no explaination for the sudden and lasting effect alcohol has had, nor have I found anyone who has experienced anything similar. If you have, please let me know. Thank you. PS-Any and all responses are welcomed
