apparently because the only 'art' that is commissioned or paid for or acknowledeged as such...
well... it's about moving money around.
suppose there's a few million dollars and you want to get it to someone because they did something for you but no way to do it lawfully...
maybe they have a wife or daughter who makes art. you could spend a few million on a painting.
some interior designing.
something like that.
i think... i am thinking... that's the purpose or function of art. the way the money goes around.
it makes sense of why the money goes where the money goes. and it makes sense of what is going on with the decisions that are made about what is 'quality'.
apparently the people who gets arts funding are typically accountants or lawyers in new zealand. they know about the sources of funding. they fill out the application forms. they know how to spam the application forms so they get paid for something. a commissioned work. every now and then.
it makes sense of everything.
the derision with which most people have for the arts, in New Zealand.
the sorts of things that are commissioned. who gets the commission. all of it.
