Victoria University, Wellington... The Vice Chancellor insists on changing the name and the logo. Refreshing the branding. Wants to change it to 'Wellington University' or even to it's Maaori name.
He says it's about distancing from Melbourne, Victoria. That people get confused... He says it's about dragging the Uni (the one in Wellington) down.
But it's more likely that people will apply to Victoria University if they think it is in the state of Victoria, Australia, than located in New Zealand. The association is likely to help the Uni, not hinder it, in other words.
Only... That's not the reason.
The obvious reason is because Victoria University, Wellington... Is known throughout the world to be a crap Univesrity. And the VC wants to try and improve it's reputation (or make more money off of it if people think it's a pay for your Degree place)... Either of those would be moving it up...
The alumni don't like it. I guess because they are trying to say their Degrees expired because they are more than 5 years old. So you have to do a whoel new new Degree (and you have to pay bribes to get to do that)...
Is the way we are, now.
Did you know we have an MIT? Manakau Institute of Technology. Manakau is South Auckland... Large Pacific Island Community. Deprivation. They market engineering Degrees as MIT.
But now the world is hearing that MIT (Auckland) has covid.
Huh.
