"I've noticed i go back to same places in my dreams, weeks later..."
This is a fascinating statement to me because I've noticed the same thing myself, only it's not weeks later, but to the place I left off the night before. It's like when I'm falling asleep (and I use the word "asleep" lightly since I sleep so poorly due to my anxiety and sleep apnea), I go back to the dream feeling space of the night before. I don't even remember it until I get there. Weird.
In terms of nightmares, I can totally relate. I have them all the time. They come in different themes, but broadly, I would say they all relate to loss of control over my life, or fear of being smothered/abandoned. I've had Christian-inspired dreams too, with fears of going to hell, but those do not dominate me unless I stay in that head space.
I do not ascribe much meaning to my dreams. I feel like they are biologically-mediated representations of/responses to my paranoias, fears, desires, and hopes. I used to write my dreams down. I don't do that anymore. Hope your nightmares stop plaguing you. That's unsettling when that happens.
