Parents wasting food

Posted by linkadge on January 22, 2016, at 19:17:08

Week after week, my parents make the same mistake over and over.

At the end of each week, they throw away $20-40 worth of rotten food. Then they go out and start "hunting" for "deals" on produce that is "on sale". They constantly over purchase. We live a few steps away from a larger grocer, yet they feel the need to "stockpile".

My parents are very foolish. They can't seem to see the folly - the fact that they are simply not saving jack.

My philosophy for saving money (having saved $250K - almost as much as they each have at twice my age) is to throw away the flyers the moment they arrive. I get into heated debates with people who genuinely think they are saving money by driving from store to store in the hunt for bargains. I feel you save much more, by not even considering half the crap that you don't need, and never though about buying anyway.

They don't see it my way. They think they are savvy. The key to saving is understanding how to be content. You are never content by looking for all the thing that you "might" want.
