CE - You have this sensitivity to all these fine gradations of socio-economic class that, I think, comes from living in a small town. In small towns, people know one another's business, know who has had issues with mental illness, know what work everyone does, how much money they make, etc.
You wouldn't feel this way if you lived in a city, even a medium-sized city.
