Unless my memory is wrong, I think it's actually either that:

(1) posters have their auto-asterisking turned off, or;

(2) Dr. Bob will have to conform this is still so, but it's just a function of the software...or a limitation, I should say.

It only catches the precise words programmed into it and there is no way to conceive of every permutation of those words. So, making any commonly known offensive word into even a slightly unusual compound word like the one you mentioned defeats the auto-asterisking.

For example...

sh*t NOPE

sh*th**d NOPE (pretty commonly used)

shittyhead YUP - gets through

shitheadface YUP - gets through

f*ck NOPE

fuckface YUP (huh-apparently not common enough, at least to the programmer of the lexicon <shrug>)

For me, the problem part of the word is the last part, not the f-word. I don't like references to mentally challenged folks being thrown around as curses. It's ignorant.

Being born slowed down in some way mentally (retarded) really has nothing to do with acting like an idiot, f*ck face, or jackwagon, does it? The former isn't a choice. The latter are..in most cases - and are matters of perspective and opinion.

I know Scott and others didn't mean it that way, or probably even think of it, but still....it makes me sad.

MDD (presently in complete remission); ADD-Inattentive type; mild anxiety (not fomally dx'd)

Meds: Strattera 80 mg q day
