I do get (unreasonably) upset about minor things, though. Things that it isn't in my power to do anything about. Cars that drive too far up your *ss. Stuff like that. I don't suppose there is much of any good that comes from getting as riled about stuff like that as I do.
I'm not sure about the whole assertiveness thing...
Most people do piss about though, to be sure. And then (and the economy doesn't help, most probably) people are very concerned to be given kudos...
Our internet connection has been dodgey for a while... I assumed that one of the people who sort of takes themselves to be looking after us would be on to sorting that out... Then it turns out that no, they hadn't done anything about it. So then the lady who runs the place... I left her a note jammed in the door saying I phoned about the internet and need 3 pieces of information before they will look into it.
And then says that no, somebody else has the information and they look into it. Apparently they were told that the technical support is located in Singapore and that is why everything takes so long.
So... The appropriate chain of command is for me to tell x who is supposed to tell y who is supposed to tell z. Who then phones a... Who says they can't do anything because they are located in Singapore. And so nothing gets done.
I suppose a's job is really very important that he has to deal with people located all the way outside the country! (via a freecall 0800 number). and everyone is supposed to be oh so grateful when things finally do that which they are supposed to!
it is a 5 minute job people... c'mon...
but...
i got angry. said that nobody else seems to care because other people are simply missing out on their facebook. i actually need to read books via online library access and need a reliable connection to turn the page. rely on dropbox backups... need to do online grading next week...
nobody else studies. that is why nobody else needs / appreciates the quiet. that is why nobody else is upset about the lack of internet (it doesn't affect their studies - they don't appreciate it as a work tool).
and of course that didn't go down well.
apparently i need to chill out and get some sleep and live in my heart...
and (again) : i need to work on my thesis.
but now she is angry. i mean... she told me several times that nobody else actually does any study... but it is one of those things it is okay for her to say, but not for me.
i was going to say that its okay. their courses don't require them to actually do any study. the fact that they mostly turn up to class puts them in the top 1/4 of their class, anyway. but that wouldn't have helped since she works as a tutor.
diplomacy.
i have none in this environment...
and so... i suppose that means i need to put my energy into visiting alternative places to live. for reals. sigh.
