it's too bad you won't make it to the Netherlands, it's the coolest and most sympathetic European country I think... but the other places on your itinerary are quite nice as well of course.
As for Brussels:
Is your son into chocolate? Then the Museum of Cocoa and Chocolate might be worth a visit:
http://www.mucc.be/EN/index_en.htmOr do you guys like (surrealist) art, then the René Magritte museum might be an idea:
http://www.musee-magritte-museum.be/Or, if you like architecture, just walk through the city, there are beautiful buildings everywhere :).. particularly the Townhall at "Grand Place".
Or you could visit the European Parliament, if you're interested in politics.
If you want to do a day-trip in Belgium, definitely go to Antwerp or, better yet, Bruges on the coast. It's a very beautiful town!
In Berlin:
The Berlin Wall of course..
I've never been to the German Historical Museum, but I am sure it is interesting: http://www.dhm.de/ENGLISH/index.htmlOr the Jewish Museum maybe? http://www.jmberlin.de/main/EN/homepage-EN.php
If you are less into museums and more into seeing the actual city, the quarters Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg are probably the most vibrant parts of the city..
I've only been to Munich as a kid, so I can't say much about it, but theoretically you could go to Vienna for a day. Or if your son is into cars, you could take a guided tour through the BMW facility: http://www.bmw-werk-muenchen.de/lowband/com/en/index.html
That's all that comes to my mind right now.. if there's anything else I'll think of until Friday, I'll let you know! :)
