> Right now I feel left behind. My friends have all graduated college and are married with kids and I'm still struggling through it with bipolar disorder. Part of it is that I want what they have. I had a fiancee who died last year in an accident. My CBT therapist wants me to join clubs and make friends. The kids are so much younger than I am. And I don't know how to make friends. I'm socially awkward and ADD. Inevitably, I scare them off. So how do I make friends knowing I won't know how stable I'll be in a week or even a month? What is friendship anyway? The friends I have are all friends from high school.

yeah, I sort of know what you mean in some ways...a lot of my friends have married, had children- these things haven't been priorities for me, managing my life and moods has been. Some friends from high school are fine though aren't they? I've got a couple, they are people I wanted to keep knowing.
I sort of like continuing education classes, a little bit of a commitment, but not huge, usually not too expensive, at local high schools, community colleges, etc. and they're not all kids. At least you'd find some people with similar interests and a reason maybe to interact?
Fitting in sucks anyway, it's over-rated to be sure.
good luck,
sid
