Hypothetically speaking:

Let's say you met someone you liked a lot and became intimate with him, only to learn that he'd been sleeping with someone else for 18+ months and lied to you about it. And say, he chose the other woman but you felt there was a lot more to him than this one mistake/betrayal and decide to remain his friend.
