> Yes, under the rules to call someone horrible used to be uncivil no matter the intention or joking around.

I wouldn't agree that's been the case in the past. The same word can have more than one meaning, depending on tone, context, relationship between the parties, and other factors. I think we try to be open to that possibility when evaluating posts. We see all sorts of joking at Babble, and much of it we let go as acceptable under the civility rules. Oftentimes, if it's difficult to tell, we'll wait to see if there is any response/report from those involved in the thread, or to whom comments were directed. If so, that gives us more information to consider. Even then, we don't sanction posts 100% of the time after someone says they are offended. Sometimes, deputies and/or Dr. Bob think the 'recipient' is reading into something, and missing the benign intent of the poster. It's no exact science, but we thoughtfully consider each situation, discuss and do the best we can. Interpretation is quite an individual thing, though, of that I'm sure. I think we all have out own lenses and filters.

> I guess you're special and above those rules. Good for you.

Please don't be sarcastic or post anything that could lead others to feel accused or put down. Also, please use the Notification button, instead of posting on the board, if you think a post is in violation of the civility rules.

If you or others have questions about this or about posting policies in general, or are interested in alternate ways of expressing yourself, please see the FAQ: http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil

Follow ups regarding these issues should be directed to Admin, and should of course, be civil. Dr. Bob has oversight over deputy decisions, and he may choose a different action.
