I don't have a clue about this stuff, but if I'm in need of advice I go here:

They have boards for makeup, hair, fashion, etc. They have peer-experts on everything! Some of the boards (makeup and fashion for instance) update so fast, it's like a chat. It's pretty amazing. Sometimes it's a bit too.....much, but these ladies know their stuff. I feel like a hairy cave woman in comparison.
There is also a section for product review which is really handy if I'm thinking about buying something.
