And I am super-duper impressed. To me knitting is not quite a mystery, but certainly a cause for amazement. I knitted (past tense, knit or knitted?) a pair of slippers in High School & am still amazed that I did it!! My Mom was a very wonderful knitter. It was back in the day of those HEAVY wool jackets with a zipper up the front & designs on front panels & on back. I got to choose the design (from pictures of patterns) & the colour. I chose the main colour of black, with yellow roses climbing up a green vine! LOL My DH says that his Mom made him one also & his was a cowboy. :-)) My Mom also made those Aran (sp?) sweaters - I think they were Irish originally - they were beige wool with really intricate designs - almost like braids & arrows & wiggly lines - really nice.
Anyway, when I learned to knit it was just 'knit & purl'. Apart from the slippers, a scarf would be my limit. My Mom was a wonderful person & she never pushed me at all to knit, even though it was her forte.
Long story here, righ? ANYway, it amazed me enough to see my Mom following the patterns & being able to create these wonderful creations. HowEVER - the mere thought of someone creating their OWN things with knitting really 'blew me away' when I first read it & still does. Absolutely no disrespect to the designer (that sounds like a huge accomplishment), but personally, I'm way more impressed with you designing your own knitted stuff!!!!!
Do you knit very often? My Mom pretty-well always had something on the go. So did DH's.
I can crochet. I actually made a huge blanket years ago. Unfortunately it's in the "70's" colours, which I got SO sick of....olive green, brown, gold (I didn't put orange in the blanket, but you know those colour combinations?). I also followed a pattern & partly made a dress for my daughter (now 32) when she was little. Hit a snag in understanding pattern though, so never finished it - unravelled it & made a scarf, since wool was really pretty.
Anyhow, I'd love to see your things. Do you have any photos? (I'm one to talk about photos, since I still haven't gotten DH to help me get some pottery ones 'internet-friendly').
What's your favourite thing you've designed (or favouriteS - if you're like me & have trouble choosing just one favourite of anything).
luv, Kath
PS - do you create it as you go along? Or figure it out ahead of time? it mystifies me.
