>Yes, I am deeply scared of illness too Phillipa. Especially something like cancer. It's not even so much 'me' I am afraid of, but watching somebody I love wither away from this merciless disease. My Dad's best friend from when he was working at GM got cancer last year, and it spread through his entire body...head to toe. His family had to watch him just crumple like that, and in so much pain. This is another topic entirely, but it is like in those extreme cases, where I might be in horrible pain and the doctors are too chickensh*t to give full dose pain meds,(They say..."Ohh...they are going to get 'addicted'." Well, hell...who gives a freck! If you are dieing and in utter pain, does it really friggen matter?) that I'd consider assisted suicide. Also, if it was the wish of a loved one, I'd do what I could.
Well..anyways back to the movie. It touched again on the whole "mortality" issue, and the fact we should live each day like it was our last. That is really hard to do with having mental illness, but seeing this in other people gives you inspiration. I have a really, really drastic fear of loved ones dieing, and you know a bit about my past, so it's a bit of a 'conditioned' thing. I am slowly, slowly learning to make peace with the idea we do die (ya, as if I have any choice...lol) , and so will everyone we love. That sounds kinda corny, but it's a major hurdle for me.
Now I am working on my second university degree, a B.Ed in Adult Education, and I will either go to teacher's college and teach adult continuing ed folks, or I might enter the Teaching English as a Second Language field. So, that'll keep me busy, and keep me from just sitting around 'stewing' in my own depression. I'll be 40 by the time I am done, so it will be a nice mid-life career change. In the movie, Morgan Freeman's character uses his intellect in trivia and Jeopardy to keep him going. That is sorta what I hope to do by getting my new career.
