> You don't have to go searching to find yourself. Inside, you are there already. Now it's time to peel off the layers of the onion. These are your thoughts and feelings and behaviors that you know are counterproductive - that you know are not really you. This takes bravery. The layers are there to protect you from the outside world. However, they sequester you from yourself as well. The more layers you peel off, the closer your true self will be to your outside presentation. Remember to peel off only the negative layers. Many of the layers need to be there so to create healthy boundaries between you and your environment.

> - ScottI don't know if we're saying the same thing in a different way. This book does have a spiritual component. Tolle talks about the ego which is programmed behavior..it composed of thoughts and emotions. Tolle talks about a certain life essence that gives our form life. He says we have to realize we're not the ego. Ego is a program we have created. tolle says we have to be able to detach ourselves from the ego and just feel our essence and be able to connect with the universe. Ego separates us from us from our spiritual component. That's why animals often live more in harmony with nature or some primitive cultures live a simple but happy life.I know this may sound strange so you might have to read the book and judge for yourself.
It's a life that's what native americans lived at one time. Very spiritual people that were very connected with their environment. Death was not feared because it was only the end of a physical body and the spirit lived on.
