I have so many horror stories from the 2 weeks at that job. One day I walked back to bag up some crickets, and the tarantula was sitting besides the cricket tank! I squealed and ran out of there! Then I grabbed one of the teenage boys that worked there and made him go in there (keep in mind I'm assistant manager here) and I said, "Is that what I think it is?" He also squealed and ran out! Turned out, it wasn't the tarantula but his skin he had shed, or something like that. All I know is someone finally showed me it wasn't alive. And that's not even the scariest experience!
One day a guy wanted to look at a scorpion. At this point, everything I did there grossed me out or scared me, but I HAD to have money coming in, so I just kept telling myself, just do it and don't think about it. Bag the crickets, catch the enormous rat and put it in the way too little box so the people can take it home and feed it to their snake, pry apart the frozen rats to give the customer for the same reason (those dead frozen rats REALLY creeped me out!), take the snakes out of their cage and carry them to a customer to look at, and clean up more kinds of poop than you ever knew existed. It was just unbelievably awful! So, when the guy asked to look at the scorpion, I just said to myself, don't think about it, just put the box up to the top, slide the door open, and let it crawl in. Well, as soon as I slid the door open, it immediately slipped between the box and the cage!!! Within seconds was on the floor by my feet! I screamed something like, "Oh God no!!!" To make a long story short, the customer ran back there and caught it for me.
So needless to say, after all those things, birds never scared me again. I WELCOMED getting a bird for a customer! So now I have an appreciation for them. And yours sounds especially cute!!! That's so funny how he hangs upside down to get your attention. And I would love to see it take a bath! Enjoy your new little friend.
