At the risk of a communinal gasp that will suck me into my computer screen.... here goes.... I believe there is such a thing as overinformed and overinfluenced. Don't misunderstand, I believe information and our own advocacy is very important. I find a difference between educated and smart. Educated is having information. Smart is knowing what to do with that information.
This is far from my first med/treatment rodeo and I've had the usual stops and starts. One very important thing I have gleamed was I could not predict MY response from information and other's empirical findings. I could only know what would happen with me if the chemical was in me to cause happenings. In my case, the med that has helped me be in recovery for three years was a complete nightmare for others with the "same" issues as mine. I did have alot of fodder (gotten from other's findings and also from very complex conficting information involving polysyllabic words with numbers as a prefix) to support never trialing it.
Good Luck
